Throwing in the towel on identifying this one without help. From the latest lot:

Obverse:

Off-centered and very faint. *Maybe* a helmeted bust; Athena in Corinthian helmet at a stretch.
Itty-Bitty-Bronze---Ae-9,-Possibly-Greek

Reverse:

Vaguely feminine figure; reminds me of a fertility goddess. Appears to be resting on something. Legend is definitely Greek, reading "-SIL-". I assume "BASILEWS"

Itty-Bitty-Bronze---Ae-9,-Possibly-Greek

Diameter: 9mm
Weight: 1.17g

Any ideas welcome as always!

I suspect that, despite the feminine features of the reverse, it is Apollo resting on a bow. Popular reverse motif, of course. I agree: BASILEWS to right. Obverse could be Apollo or Athena...

Good call on the reverse. I have a lot of entries to wade through but that does help to narrow it down somewhat. Looks like Seleucid is the first starting point.

Out of curiosity, when searching for sizes, should I use the actual size of this coin (9mm) or add a few mm, since this was clearly struck with dies designed for a larger flan of perhaps 12-15mm?

I suppose when the denomination name is not known, and the imagery was clearly meant for a larger flan (or started out with a larger flan before wear), then adding a couple millimeters for the search makes sense.

Might be closer here:

http://coinproject.com/coin_detail.php?coin=207274

The obverse and reverse match, with the shoulder of Apollo level with the AS, and elbow pointed toward I in BASILEWS.

The stance doesn't quite match up, and the portrait seems too complete to be a 9mm hole punched out of a 16mm coin.

Not there but making progress.

Were AE fractionals common in this era?
