Here's one for the dumb story files! My boss was trying to tell me today that the Mint is recalling all of the 2005 Buffalo nickels. Supposedly someone complained that the buffalo is too "anatomically correct" ("You can see it's 'dingy'" he said...), so the coins are being recalled. He swears up and down that his wife, who works at another bank in town, was told by her boss to round up all the Buffalo nickels to ship back. He was trying to get me to search for Buffs in our loose coin, I laughed for a good hour when he told me why! Anyone else heard this one?

They can have ALL my Buffalo nickels when the pry my cold dead hands from around them!!! When is the American people FINALLY going to put all the self appointed, politically correct "do gooders" in their place. I am so sick of what is happening in this country and don't understand how so many people can be so ignorant of the world around them! And, to top it all off, MOST of these outspoken critics, of whatever, are in it for the MONEY!
Rest in Peace

The people who believe these urban legends are the same people who would be interested in the sale of the bridge I've been trying to peddle for years (note: price just lowered for fast sale). Here's the straight poop from a hoax debunker:

You know.? I really have to think of the mental giant who would even notice such a thing. I have never looked at a Buffalo nickel and tried to find its private parts.

Maybe they should recall it because of the obverse!

Thanks for the link- I looked on Snopes but must have missed that one! I'm still laughing about this. My boss's wife insists that she was told by someone who works at a major national chain of banks (we'll call them Walls Furgo to protect the ignorant) that this was legit, and she's still looking for Buff nickels. The boss tried to convince me again today that I should be returning our nickels too. Sheesh...

Rachael, put him in touch with me. I am certain a person of his stature would be very interested in my offering: mid-19th century, single span, 90% original (only parts of the roof were replaced during the restoration process), painted bright red as befits a classic covered bridge. Shipped disassembled, reassembly directions included. No charge for delivery. Satisfaction guaranteed. Seven-day return no-reasons-asked policy. PayPal only, no credit cards. May be seen at: http://newtownsq.home.att.net/image...d-Bridge.jpg

Tell him it is being recalled due to the SKELETONS in Jefferson closet that are now coming out. The buffalo is innocent!

I'm with you on this one Steve, but I'll have to admit that I did notice things on this coin that I haven't noticed on other coins. Let me explain, I was looking for Terry and his hunting party, and knew I would really have to search. Finally found him dressed as a sunflower and not in his loin cloth as expected.

Old DAN, It was the Kansas horizon! I think the mint messed up when they took that amazing portrait of the Buffalo, the sunflower and me so apparently I am behind one of the buffalos legs. Darn the luck!

Maybe we're missing out on an opportunity here. For those who insist that the 2005 Buffalo nickel is being recalled and can't be convinced otherwise, we oughtta tell them the mint is offering seven cents for each returned nickel, but that if they give us six cents for each nickel we collect, then s/he can be the one to turn them in and collect the extra cent. Let's see, 500,000 nickels sold for a cent's profit each to the sukka...

(Come to think about it, maybe that's why the truck with all those nickels was hijacked.)
