Have tried several times to clean this one but can't get a clear id of what this one is. However, the Christmas tree never goes away! So, just in time for Christmas here is an ancient Christmas coin. ;)

The cleaner this gets, the more I think it is two glories holding a wreath... which makes me question if the red and green tree looking thing is supposed to be just that or if it is supposed to be something else... cause oddly the red and green don't disappear... but everyone I've asked swears that coloration should not be on the coin... So... IDK... Either way, it makes it really interesting to me!

see.... here's a closer view.... looks like intentional coloring to me... and looks like there is a vase or stem of the tree under the coloration. It's pretty cool looking. I love this coin.

Here is the type, an example from Constans minted at Thessalonica. The 'Christmas tree' is where the field mark would be. There are many different marks. Below is one that depicts a palm frond.

Thanks! I was looking at those from Constans. I just can't seem to get this to look like on of those found with the two victories. Maybe if I had a strong microscope or if it was cleaner... Not sure I want it to change though. I think it looks pretty awesome just like it is lol. I mean who else has a colorful looking two glories coin? Haha. I haven't seen one like this yet! I've had it a couple years now and every time around this time of year I pull it out. Just a really sweet looking coin.
