I agree with coinfrog. The Canadian master dies for George V1 effigy were more finely detailed than for the British homeland and other British Commonwealth countries.

I don't like the rims - I have a specimen 1950 cent and it does not look anything like this one... those fields should be like mirrors (I did notice that posted in the other sub-forum about 1950 specimen set populations)...
If it is a specimen strike, then the only thing I can think is that you are showing scanner images, and not photographs...

Quote: If it is a specimen strike, then the only thing I can think is that you are showing scanner images, and not photographs... Unfortunately these are photographs and not scans. It is in fact a specimen strike. ICCS said SP64. Which is also the reason I posted it here. Quote: those fields should be like mirrors The fields do not have the mirror look I am used to in the few other George VI specimens that I have. However, looking at the lettering (especially under a magnifier), I can tell it has the characteristics of a specimen strike. Very sharp/squared, defined lettering. Not too sure what to do with it

Quote: ICCS said SP64. ICCS is not always right... just saying' Bring it to a major coin show, where Sandy Campbell is set up as a dealer, and show it to him. He has seen more George VI specimen coins than anyone else, and see what he says...

spp-ottawa, how would PCGS deal with this coin? I have a feeling that they would not be as forgiving of the reverse as ICCS...

Difficult to say - I have yet to send my George VI specimen cents to PCGS... the 64 grade is probably good, but they might call it red-brown.

If your concerned about it not being a proof specimen strike, I'd sent it to PCGS IMHO. On top of being 100% sure, the slab gives it extra protection from wear and scratches that could occur when the coin is in the ICCS "bag".
EDIT: not a proof coin... ment to say specimen. Oops!

Would not the carbon spots affect the grade especially PCGS, where eye appeal is important.

Quote: Would not the carbon spots affect the grade especially PCGS I think at a 64, it wouldn't really affect the whole eye appeal aspect. That being said, I think any higher would definitely have eye appeal impact the grade. But I can't say this for sure because I haven't sent any coins to PCGS yet. Quote: If your concerned about it not being a proof specimen strike, I'd sent it to PCGS IMHO I will once I get enough to make it worth sending to PCGS
