Bought this coin the other day, not the best looking but I like Parthian coins and when they come along at a good price I picked it up. This is only my second Parthian coin so I'm just starting to learn about them. Parthian Empire AR Drachm Artananus II 10-38 AD Ecbatana mint 20mm x 3.49 grams x 12h Reference Sellwood 63.6 Bob Can you help with a translation of the reverse, I wasn't able to come up with one? Hopefully I got the reference right.

Good to see you picked up another Parthian, Ron. For the Greek, see Sellwood Legend 63ii here: http://parthia.com/parthia_inscriptions.htmTranslation, I believe, is something like: King of Kings, Arsakes, beneficial, fair, friend of the Greeks.

Nothing wrong with that one Ron, I like these coins and am looking out for one myself. It seems that bargains can be had with them too, hope you got a good deal on what I think is an attractive coin even despite it having a little wear on it.

Apparently it couldn't find it without the hyphen... anyway an interesting selection of coins he has there and pretty reasonably priced too... but with customs and duty, plus postage from the States, I think probably better for me to buy from V-coins from a European source.

Didn't consider the customs duty. Your right Vcoins is the way to go.

Ron it is a pretty hit and miss affair. A few years back I could buy from the USA and 90% of the time there would be no charges. These days more common than not there is an £8 charge for customs plus 20% of the value of the item. Sellers tend to declare high retail value (thinking that they want to be protected on postal insurance) and the result is a bigger bill. Not only do these charges occur but the packages tend to be delayed and then a card comes through the door resulting in the need to drive down to the depot, pay to park the car and then stand in a queue with irritated tellers.
In general the situation leads me to want to buy from this side of the pond, and with the favourable exchange against the Euro it seems that the German firms on V-coins usually get my business.
I do appreciate the pointer though Ron.

I know what your saying, it's not as bad here but I've had a few packages from the Netherlands held in US Customs for inspection, one took well over a month before it was delivered. I usually don't buy anything from outside the U.S.
