Another trick to determining double dies: open posts by other people here in the forum and before you scroll down to the responses, judge for yourself (machine damage/die deterioration/double die). It took me a while but that helped. Quick tip:
Machine Damage: The letters are the same size as a normal letter, additionally the "doubling" is lower/shelf like
Die Deterioration: Check for heavy cleaning marks (these can look like die cracks or tiny scratches), worn out design with little sign of circulation, VLDS (picture below for what vlds can do to a coin)
Double Die: Fatter design than a normal coin, split letters and/or split serifs.
VLDS (Very Late Die State) [Notice the filled/fat letters, the frosty glaze seen near the letters and missing detail on Jefferson's head]:

Last Tip: Include the date and mint mark of the coin in question on your posts. This one isn't pictured and is not in the title or body of the post.
