Hello!

I came across this quarter tonight and have had no luck finding one like it through various internet searches. Has anyone seen anything like this? Thanks!

I can take better pics in the morning, but hopefully the error is visible enough to get some insight.

Hi Jillian! Welcome to CCF. What you have is not an error. It's a counterstamped coin. There is a forum here you can visit and post coins like these that you come across. If you've noticed, there are vending type machines that are set up in various locations (local attractions, national parks) that if you stick a penny and a quarter in it, you can crank a handle and counterstamp the penny for the price of a quarter. Some even flatten the coin into a plate with pressed message or image.

Other coins require a stamp set, an anvil, and a hammer. Coins are routinely stamped with letters or symbols (e.g. a Mason's symbol). Mostly, these coins are kept as novelties. But some make it back into circulation like your specimen. Some folks collect them, others just pass them along.

Enjoy the coin and the hobby!!

Looks to me like someone punched a circular section out of a quarter, flipped it over, and put it back into the coin.

with Badger Mint

A section was cut out and flipped. You can see the E Pluribus Unum on the obverse, and the neck of Washington on the reverse.

Cut out of either that coin or another and reinstalled.

I found a similar half dollar a while ago.
