To obtain a more accurate diagnosis I would suggest cutting back on the diffusion lighting. Also change your lighting to a more axial orientated one with an angle of incidence of about 45°.
Additionally, when one zooms in on these current photos a lot of distortion emerges. If it's possible, try to take some closer shots of the 'e pluribus unum'so the missing letters can be further investigated in depth.
