my bank has many branches but only one has a coin counter and it nearly an hour round trip. If I were to do it ofton it would be usless to search. I have been thinking about opening a kinda dummy acount at a bank that is near me just so I could use there counter.

Oh okay, I didn't know it was far. Well I bank at wells fargo and they do not have coin counters. So I opened a "dummy account" at a local bank that has 3 locations relatively close to me with coin counters. I use them just to dump coins. So I think that would be your best option if you want to avoid annoying that bank.

I agree with murrellington. I have two dummy accounts with banks ($100 each) just to dump and get boxes. Well worth tying up some money for the convenience.

I searched my second box of nickels today. I got 1 1943-P Silver, a 1925 Buffalo and a dateless Buffalo! I also got a bunch of hole fillers and a bunch of pre-1960s. I think I like searching nickels more than I do half dollars (I've searched several boxes without one single silver peice)!

Nice job agibby! Incase you dudes are wondering, Monday I will get a box or two, maybe some dimes, totally pig out since its been so long!  Also I have zero accounts at other banks and my dump bank is TD Bank, in which we have many accounts in, so they cant care even if they want. |

I figured that out in 1990 and started collecting nickels then. Before that I collected pennies and anything silver.

It took 32 boxes but I just found my first 1955-P. Woohoo! Pictures aren't great (I don't have the natural lighting set up yet), but any guesses on the condition?   Edited by robbudo

Awesome robbudo! I'm 53 boxes in and don't have that coin yet. I get nervous every time I get a 1955 when I check for the mint mark.

Nice '55, rob! I'd call it AU (late die state). I had a nice bunch of nickels myself today as well. Found a 1945P, 1937 Buffalo, and a 1941S "Large S" variety. The best find of all though was that when I was at the bank to pick up the nickels, the teller had 2 very nice SBA proofs for me: 1999P, and 1981S (type 1 mintmark, unfortunately) |

How epic would that be if your SBA ended up being a type 2? lol. And nice finds Kefiroth! I have one 1941 large s as well. |

Box #43 down. Finally! its about time isn't it! silver-1 1943-P thats 33/43 silvers no buffs no V's proof-1969-S and its not a wannabe proof like the ones I used to think I had found-this one has full steps, sharp rims, and a bit of mirror left. Dates 1940D 1942 CuNi MS 1939 Edited by rachums107

Box 32 completed: the 1955 (plain) AU posted above was the highlight. Also found a 43P (silver) and a 2009-D.
I'm finally in the 5 hole club, although my 5 are a slightly different than the typical (38D, 38S, 43D, 44S, and 50D).

Are the 1955 p really that valuable? I have three of them from roll finds but the RedBook only list them at around $1 in AU (I know there a low mintage), War nickles are more then that in just melt. Or is there somthing I am missing here? Thank you Ron |
