Pickling revealed my Buffalo to be a 1924...

25 MWR of nickels bought yesterday and searched this morning brought me nine pre-60s including a 1943-S War Nickel, a single 2024-P, and five 2024-Ds.
CRH Nickeloholic. 1,600,000 nickels searched in eight years! Have found FOUR complete Jefferson sets!

So recently, I found part of a collection dump amongst an almost full box of String & Sons MWR. I actually picked up the coins over the course of three separate visits to my main branch: I got one roll the first visit, 25 the next, and 17 the last visit. So I got 43 of the 50 original rolls.

I got two pre-60s in the first roll, including a black beauty 1958, so I made sure to go to that branch the following Tuesday morning when they opened - I knew the same teller who had that roll and the rest of the box would be there. Sure enough, the next group of 25 rolls was loaded: 27 more pre-60s, two 1973-S proofs, and five 2024-Ds. There was also another black beauty 1958 Philly amongst the six I pulled.

I knew said teller's next scheduled shift would be that Saturday, so I went back and got the remaining 17 rolls when they opened. They produced another 25 pre-60s including a 1942-D, a 1948-S, and eight more 1958 Philly coins, including two more black beauties - sadly, one of them was an ender and got roll damage. There were also two 2024-Ds in this group.

In all, I found 54 pre-60s, including 15 1958 Phillys, the 1942-D and 1948-S scarce dates, the two 1973-S proofs, and seven 2024-Ds. Quite the 63 coin haul!

Finally took time to CRH a full box of nickels.
Probably my best box, in terms of pre 1960. Typical wear.
Since I only keep post 1939's with a mintage under 50M, most of these will be returned to the wild!
ADDED: Though these are relatively common years, if anyone needs a hole filler or an upgrade from the 40's and 50's I found, let me know.

So last Friday I went to one of my branches to get coin. The teller only had 15 of the 25 rolls, I wanted, so she got 10 rolls from another teller. One of the rolls she got was old-style wrapping. When I got home, I opened it and found every coin in it was 1964 or earlier, including 16 pre-60s.

I finally got back to that branch today after work to see if said teller had any more old style rolls - and she did! 16 of them, along with one old-style dime roll which was heavy!!! (see the dime thread - https://goccf.com/t/60961&whichpage=449#4522385 for that one!)

The-Goal:-25,000-Rolls-Of-Nickels-All-Searchers-Welcome!

The rolls produced 121 pre-60s, including five War Nickels - 1942-P, 1943-S, 1944P, 1945-P (2), and a 1948-S. The rest were all more common dates, except for a couple of 1953-S coins. There were three 1965-dated coins in this group. Every other coin was dated 1964 or before. The oldest coin was a 1939. Note: Only 81 coins can be seen in the picture below - the other 40 coins are in that roll in the front.

John77 amazing finds, congrats! Love to see all those pre 1960s. Call me crazy but I still think the 40s and 50s Jeff's will have their day sometime and could be worth a little something. They really are getting harder to find. I do a box a week myself.

I also wanted to add a general comment that 1964s are the kryptonite of nickel hunting. Man how many times I've thought I had an older Jefferson only to turn it over and see the dreaded "1964". I actually keep 1960s nickels too but I make sure the 64 never makes it into any roll I keep lol
