Owassokie, are you going to stop once you find the 50d? That was my plan. I need to finish my set and I will be done. Also, I really want to find my first V nickel. But I've been lagging on searching, haven't really been motivated lately.

Murphy, I did have a coin that looks kinda like that on one side though. I thought I posted pics when I got it but no one commented on it. Is it possible to have it happen to one side only? I held on to the coin just in case but always suspected it was PMD.

"Bullet" Nickel


Lastly a strange coin. Notice the neck line, how there isn't any form to the neck between the chin and the top of the collar of the shirt. The neck is the same as the background, with just a hint of a dot. Cleaned? Rubbed? Never seen one like it. Labeling it "Floating Head Jefferson" on the 2x2.

Murrellington, The nickels are getting old for me for sure. It's funny you mentioned stopping upon finding the 50D. I told myself that about 3 weeks ago. That is my plan. As for V nickels, I've found way more than my share. I'm sure I've found at least 30. Found 11 (I think) in one box. None of them in great shape, most in very poor shape. The oldest being an 1883 (or 1884). I think someone around here has been culling a bunch of their V nickels or something.

I sure wish I would have kept better records. I have no idea how many boxes I've looked through but it's easily in excess of 300. 5 or 6 boxes a week for well over a year.

I think that buffalo is pretty good for being in circulation and nice 38 wish I had one like that... As for the floating head that is different must be a greased die...took a good eye to notice it I probably would if missed it

I also found 2 odd culls which appear to be on copper planchets but may turn out to be some wierd PMD science experiment. I also found a 63 with good luster and decent steps, a blazing 85D with sharp steps, and about a dozen 83's which looked AU. I'm going to look at all those more carefully when I have time and I may post some photos afterward.

Edit: Almost forgot, I also found a very sharp 64D with what appears to be a double mint mark but I need to look at it with something better than a 10X magnifier to be sure.
