I'm trying to find out when this medal (if that's the right term) was made and what it's made of but I can't seem to find this information anywhere.
I found a book on tokens from the sudbury region written by Jeff Fournier but it doesn't give this information.
As you can see it's very large at 51mm in width and 4mm in thickness and it's gold plated. The scales say 58.2 grams so it's got some real weight to it well over the weight of two Canadian silver dollars.
It's not magnetic.
I have seen the strike being referred to as a proof strike and it is very nice but I'm not sure if the Lombardo Mint had or has the capabilities to produce a proof medal.

Any added info would be greatly appreciated and would there be any collector value on an item like this?

Cheers, Bill

Here's what I have:

Issued in two sizes, 38 and 51 mm. The 38 was struck in aluminum, gold plated aluminum, antique bronze, and goldene. The 51 in goldene, gold plated aluminum, aluminum, and gold plated base metal. The catalogue (Jeff's) indicates the goldene and the base metal as the most valuable ($15). The base metal is thicker than the others (6mm vs 4mm). There's no indication as to the year of issue or the mintages.

Most of this you already know.

There would definitely be a collector's value, but unless you find a completed auction or something, there's not really a reliable way of telling.

Thanks a lot guys It's all great info, I now know that mine is made from Goldene.
I also found out that the library tower open sometime after February. 8th 1967 and I know it was completed by1969.

Now what is Goldene?

Cheers, Bill
