I pulled this from a coin lot today. Is it worth anything beyond BV?

The coin is worth more than bullion. How much will depend on exactly what it is.

What is the weight and diameter? Also can you post the other side?

It appears to be a Peruvian coin issued under Spain. The mint mark is the LIMA monogram (loks like LMA) and appears to the left of the date 1757. The assayer initials JM appear to the right of the date on 1/2, 1 and 2 Reale coins. I think I can see the JM. On the 4R and 8R coins the assayer initials are located on the other side.

Here's the reverse:

Using my very old (but free) pharmacy balance, the weight is just shy of 3g and the diameter is about 21mm. It also sounds like silver when struck.

Well, the BV is only about $1.20 to 1.30 depending on the assay discount - and it is a 1R coin - I would estimate a full retail of $2 as a minimum. It is a common date and denomination for Peru, but common is actually a relative term. There are enough to supply demand, but how big that demand actually is IS ?

The coin itself is real - the smaller minor coins stayed in circulation in South and Central America far longer than we are used to seeing today. But it is not something I would send to the melting pot.

Thanks for the info Bob. Don't worry, I wouldn't melt it. It has too much character.
