The seller of this coin set ended the auction because it did not even reach their reserve. Tells you what the market place/collectors think of the prices of this set currently. http://www.ebay.com/itm/29163024149...RK:MEBIDX:ITThe RCM really needs to wake up. I dont think even the most hard core collector appreciates paying 120 USD for a coin and seeing it go for 40-60% LESS than they paid for. RCM and other world mints, ARE you LISTENING?

Just sign of the times, simply too much issues to absorb.

The RCM prices where at that time overpriced, but not much. What is "killing" all this series - this, like John said - too much issues from everywhere. Btw, for CAD 55 I might pick up one "Ontario" coin, still enameled, nice executed coin....just need to think if I really need the coin even for low. And the ridiculous price - check for example "The Coin Shoppe" - more than CAD 100 for basic bullion with painted fire on it. And the people are buying.

The Canadian Numismatic Company had an auction today and this is the result: Even with 18% buyer's fee it went for $260, which is way below issue price of $600. If you look at the auctions, the majority sold for well below issue price, some as much 60-70% off. The foreign coins, ie. from Australia, were even worse with no buyers at all for some coins. So like Silveriod says, why are people buying coins from the Perth Mint, the same disastrous results will occur. All Mints, besides the RCM, are overproducing coins.

Wow..I am usually not to fond of coins like this, but since Lake O has a special place in my heart,i think I might have to pick up at least that one. On the contrary, they are putting out too many of these "special sets". Everytime I turn around there is something new coming out with some new design and yada yada ya,cant keep up with them all. They are just trying to see how deep they can reach into the consumers pockets.

I bought this set when it came out. I like the design and different layers of blue enamel that denotes depth in the lakes. The first coin Superior was really nice when it arrived. I excitedly filled the box. I don't intend on selling, it is a great set. The fact that it is now less than 1/2 of what I paid, it is disappointing but in the grand scheme of things is not a big deal. Only when I'm ready to liquidate everything, will it matter. I wish every coin I bought would appreciate in value but I am a realist. Here is a picture of the set for your enjoyment.

Quote: I dont think even the most hard core collector appreciates paying 120 USD. No one paid that much. It was $115 Cdn from the RCM. Get the Michigan Coin, you've had it on your list for a while now. Nice coin at a good value.

It's not hard to see that almost every future RCM releases in the last few years will depreciate quickly in the after market, why would anyone pay issue price, almost no brainer for every issue.

And that all, despite the fact the "Lake" coins have unique technology (and design), where enamel covers different depth surface. If not mistake - enameled Mask has the same.
Other mints not close to this yet...they learned well how to do Antique finish, high relief and nice packages. Well, Austrian Mint has amazing work with Niobium and other elements.

I bought this set, not caring about it potential preservation of value or depreciation. I absolutely love it...

When they were first released I considered buying, as the coins looked very well done, and they were/ are. Still going to buy in time
