Check this one out. Buyers are so disinterested in some of the more unpopular RCM NCLT issues, that they are selling for under spot price. I wish the Mint would just SLOOOOOOW DOWNNNNNN for a few years :(

It amazes me that the products being pushed through the RCM are purchased by anyone, regardless of the possible "low mintage rarity". So many "little" mints have tried this before and the buyers who paid the mints price lost a good deal just a year or two later when they tried to sell. The flood of product can only last so long, and then you will have those pages and pages and pages in the Standard Catalog of World Coins reporting the values at slightly over then-current spot. So many countries are already listed that way and a mintage of 10,000 is considered common.

Also take note the seller is a dealer. Probably clearing old inventory. Yep. Once the mints (globally) start losing buyers (both dealers and us) they may wake up.
Or, they may keep churning out more "interesting" crap to sell to "us".

The Royal Canadian Mint is a goose. (goose = dumb, in this case) They will kill themselves, with the over issue of NCLT collector coins. They laid the 'golden egg'. Restraint is needed.

At the end of the day, it's not what the seller is asking, it's what the buyer(s) is/are willing to pay.

Quote: At the end of the day, it's not what the seller is asking, it's what the buyer(s) is/are willing to pay. Well, the fact that buyers are paying so little for RCM coins says something about the value of RCM products.

No, MoneyPenney, in this case we have collectible items, so they not like other products. What you've said, perfectly applicable for the cars - known low quality reduces demand. But with the coins - just too much, with relatively big mintage for a nische coins. Voyauger - loved by many, Lakes or Go7 - should be extremely limited to have appreciation.

No body expects market values to plummet to close to bullion in such short time for almost all issues when one try to sell. Once an product looses confidence the brand is done.

That's why they are trying to move from collectibles to mass production as masses wouldn't care much about the value on the secondary market. Like cars. Unless you buy collectible car, you know exactly how much your car will cost in a few years. Right, 25% at best.

You expect that with consumable products like cars, TV, but you have some enjoyment use, coins are for enjoyment only and maybe in the future a small loss but not instantly as it seems in today's environment created by the RCM.

john100, it is your opinion. Of course you are entitled for it, but it is not the law or rule. RCM rules here.

It's an exception though. Every so often there's an auction held and nobody comes. In this particularly case Colonial has been dumping old stock in .99 start auctions for weeks at a time. This coin was mostly selling in the $25-$30 range around that time but I guess in this case the 2nd bidder missed it. And it's one of the less popular coins. The $10 skimmer dragonfly is another one where they've just been selling them for week after week after week and run out of buyers. These coins were from the early days of the RCM flood and I suspect dealers over-ordered them not realizing the market was changing. Now they're getting dumped for whatever they can get. Hopefully they've adjusted their ordering over the 2-3 years since then and won't be finding themselves in this situation so much going forward :-)

oh my GOD thats really bad..... I dunno, something has to give here. Old stock goes for less than spot. Dealers try "exclusives" such as Silvertowne with the Bison coins as those type offerings bomb.... I mean at this rate who is going to be left to buy? RCM needs to wake up at some point and I believe this exact same trend exists in other government mints as well, look at the Perth Mint, they also put out a lot of coins that end up going for WAY LESS on the secondary market. I think mints need to put out less product AND align their coin prices with realistic prices in relation to spot PM prices. I am not saying necessarily they price right at spot for these NCLT coins but bring the premium down somewhat...
