Hi All

I am not really a collector of ancient coins but have managed to gain a few while collecting my main collection, mille Bronze and Copper. I think I know the First and possibly know the rulers of another 2 of the 4 but have no idea what type of coin or if they have any value, etc..

Coin 1 I believe is Constatine I - Constantinopolis issue Helmet Bust R. Victory

Coin 2 possibly Victorinus!
Coin 3 possibly Claudious
both 268-270AD
Coin 4 no idea

Any help in identification and a basic idea of value would be truly appreciated. Thanks

The last coin is Licinius. They are all fairly common mid to late Roman coins. The Victorinus if it were in better condition would be the more expensive of the lot. #3 doesn't look like Claudius IMO, but it could be just because of the wear.

Thanks "echizento"

So is the last an AE Follis of Licinius and what does the reverse represent?
As I say I know nothing about Roman coinage and just want to learn about the coins I have. The value is just more speculative and nice to know. As I said none of really cost me anything as I picked them up as part of groups, etc.. when buying my milled coins.

Regards

bhx7, yes, the last one is a follis, with "IOVI CONSERVATORI" reverse. The reverse shows Jupiter standing left, Victory on globe in right hand, long scepter in left, eagle left with wreath in beak at feet on left.

City commemorative type. It may be a cast...bit hard to tell from the pic. I hope others will offer opinions on that one. Hopefully I'm wrong.

I believe the reverse of the third one is a CONSECRATIO type, although the "R" is looking rather "B"-like. The most likely candidate for a radiate obverse and an eagle reverse of this type would, I think, be a Divo Claudius II Gothicus issue...but the portrait here does not really look like him - and it seems to lack a beard, which he would have. Perhaps a barbarous issue, or another ruler? Perhaps a cast of incorrect style? I'll leave it to one of our Roman experts to chime in.

Unfortunately I believe that the first one is a fake. If it were real it would be a Constantinopolis commemorative, numbers 2 and 3 also look slightly suspicious to me.
