I am looking for the "grade" (as far as F,VF,EF,AU etc. details) of this holed 1874 Shield nickel and some ideas for its value. This is the same one I posted in the variety section. It is DDO-VP005 (or F-10 by Fletcher). I can't find much info about this doubled die (value or other) so I'm looking for suggestions. (Pardon the lower quality pic's. Although since it's a details coin I don't need a precise grade anyway.) So what do you think? All thoughts are welcome. Here is the link to my post in the variety section https://goccf.com/t/248304. Edited by WheatHunter 12/23/2015 10:07 pm

I'll throw a dart and say $10 for value, give or take, to the right buyer.

AU details, it's a hole filler so value will be what ever someone is willing to pay.

Agree AU details, value is speculative.

Thanks everyone for your comments. I take then that the DDO doesn't add any value to it. Since doubled dies are relatively "common" (From what I see) on Shield nickels I guess this makes sense. edweather, your dart throwing skills are very good evidently, since I did in fact pay exactly $10 .

IMO, the value is decimated by the Details problems that any premium the DDO could have added is wiped away.

AU details, or as a TPG would just give it a "Genuine" grade since it has several problems (holed, possibly cleaned, graffiti/tooling around date, & corrosion) I'm sure the DDO adds some more premium but not much due to condition. I don't know how many of us are specialists in varieties & error's when it comes to these Shield nickels. I know that there really isn't that many people, so I think, that are into that in regards to Shield nickels. What I'd do, is take the coin out of the 2x2 and soak the obverse in some acetone. Looks like PVC corrosion or something very light. That'll make the coin look a bit more attractive.
