I usually just separate out the copper, but I was wondering if there are any easy error coins to find while going through boxes of pennies? Any help is greatly appreciated and pictures are a bonus.

My comments in your 'nickel' thread apply equally here.

Broad struck, off centers, and off metals.

COTW mentioned off center strike, look over below my user name at my avatar. That is a fine example. I'll provide a few links to get you started on your research.

Key dates and semi-key dates for Lincoln cents (not pennies) are in this link.

Several years are known to have doubled dies, like 1955 for example.

I also look for 1960 and 1970-S small date (although that is a variety).

Some reading about Lincoln errors.

SS2015,

It looks like you might be aspiring to be a broader collector. Personally speaking, I think that this is a good approach. What I mean by this is that it will help ease the effects of droughts you may encounter when looking for wheats or silver. In the old thread you revived, you will see a list of sites John1 posted. This is a great place to start when trying to learn about Variety and Error coins. In case you didn't know there was a distinction between the two, after a few nights of reading and months of interaction with your fellow CCF enthusiasts, you will learn the differences.

I hope you get excited about the journey you may be setting out on. It'll feed your passion within the hobby! Good luck on the hunt!
