I keep my collection in Dansco albums
and then put them in zip lock bags to
keep them out of the air.
QUESTION:Do you think the plastic bags
have PVC,would this be a problem?

Not sure. However I had a few Indian heads in a zip lock bag for 6 years and it now has green stuff all over it - PVC?.

Let me ask you something blcoinnut, do you put the coins into the Dansco albums raw are are you able to house the coin in 2x2 cardboard Mylar holders and then insert into the book? I don't see why the albums are such a big hit if you insert the coins raw.

From ziploc.com:

"ZiplocŪ Brand bags are made of polyethylene plastic and are recyclable under the plastic recycling number 4."

I believe PVC is number 3.

I would wait for just carl to chime in here. IMHO, he is an expert on this and has stored his albums this way for many, many years.

Chill, given how well ZiplocŪ and related products keep things out, do not discount the possibility that whatever contaminants, including atmospheric moisture, were trapped in. They key is to push as much air out as possible. Having an additional barrier (Albums, Mylar 2x2, Airtites, etc) will only improve performance.

And yes, coins are stored in the albums raw. The plastic slides limit air circulation, but do not completely prevent it.

I used to wonder about all the hoopla about PVC in plstic bags so I contacted almost every manufacturer of food type plastic bags. Most thought I was a nut to even ask if they used PVC or anything else that would start a law suit. No PVC in Zip Lock Bags. All of my over 100 Whitman Classic Albums are in them and no problems of any kind with toning, tarnishing, corroding, etc. Not even a slight bit on any coins that I've noticed. I've been doing this as long as there were plastic bags. The primary thing to rememeber is when placing coins in anything to push out as much air as possible. You must remember that coins, or any metal, will not react with anything if there is no air, gasses, moisture around. Of course there are exceptions but I won't go into elaborate chemical reactions. Primarily no coin will change if nothing touches them that can cause a reaction. If your are truely concerned just look at any package for plastic food containers for the manufacturer, go to the internet and look up their phone numbers and contact their customer services. Please don't mention me though. I think they've all had it with me by now.
Now if your a PVC worrier here is something for you. Go to any hardware store and look at what is being sold for your household water piping. Why it's PVC. OH, OH. Now your body's internal systems will all turn green.
