I inherited a large amount of my grandfather's coin collection when he passed, but everything in his safe (including the coins he kept in there) were auctioned off. I was able to get my hands on these! Thoughts?

I can understand why the coins in the safe were auctioned.
They may have been too valuable to keep. That is what I had to do with my old collection, when I needed enough money to pay for a deposit for my first house.

You might want to post these in the World Coins section. I believe the gold coins are Ducats but they were minted in many nations. Neat coins!

I wish I could've gotten more of them but I just didn't have the money

The pictures really don't give them justice (as always), but that 5 F has AMAZING details. Also, the 1863 thaler has some nice looking toning starting around the edges.

And, well, I have some gold now too

Thanks for all the replies!

Also Joe2007, I'm pretty sure the ducats are from the Netherlands. Thanks so much for the link, too!

Those are very nice coins, and the fact they belong to your grandfather....priceless!
