Cardboard flips are nice you can write on them etc. Never ever keep cents in folders. Albums are nice but more expensive. Same concept but keeps them safer and you see both sides.

I love the idea of being able to write on the flips.
And you make a good point about seeing the backside. This will come in handy as I replace lower grades with better ones.

Flips it is...thank you!

Instead of the flips, I use 2x2s. My main collection goes into albums and the duplicates into 2x2s.

It really depends on what your collecting aims are, and as a result, what your display / storage needs are.

If you are doing a date set of a single denomination of U.S. coins, with coins in circulated grades, perhaps a standard printed album is quite appropriate. In this sort of case, the coins do not need individual description.

If you are into ancient coins, every coin will need a description atached to it, and the mylar / cardboard provides the facility for doing this.

There may well come the time when you end up getting a few slabbed coins. Storage of slabs can 'throw a spanner in the works', because slabbed coins require quite differnt storage approaches which are quite incompatible with coins stored in an album. Separate slab albums and boxes are available, but these storage methods are still quite incompatible with coins stored in an album.
Rest in Peace

Jo , you can't write on flips .the cardboard 2x2's are what we are talking about. plenty of room to write. take the advice of using Albums over folders. If you want to collect rolls of coins; I use round clear plastic tubes, although some prefer the frosted square ones.
You'll get the hang of things when you have some collecting time under you belt.

All of my coins are in 2x2 cardboard holders with the see through windows on both sides. Any extra coins go into the square tube holders, they store better.

The CARDBOARD 2 X 2's are OK but they are difficult to easily get coins in and out of (staples). The Safety FLIPS have inserts that are interchangeable. I type onto stickers that I then place on the flip insert and use them again and again. That being said when my coins grew I wanted an album so I got one. And, as I purchase mainly nicer coins, I now have ALL albums for most of my coins and flips for non US and non-Canada coins as well as duplicates.
I do have some in the cardboard 2 X 2's because they were sold to me that way or the coin was to be left there permanently and the card boards are cheaper.
