Cash-For-Gold Kiosks Popping Up At Twin Cities Grocery Stores
http://minnesota.cbslocal.com/2016/...cery-stores/

Quote:
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) — Self-service kiosks are popping up to sell all sorts of things these days, from DVDs and video games at Redbox to even beer at Target Field.

Now, there's a new game in town — Goldstur allows you to get cash for your gold in just a few minutes, and it's taking off in Minnesota.

The first one just popped up at a Stillwater Cub Foods, where users can exchange gold, steel, platinum or any precious metal for cash in just a few minutes. In fact, the Twin Cities metro is one of the only places in the world that you can currently find the kiosks.

Sounds like another blow to local coin dealers. If these self-serve kiosks become as common as CoinStar then its going to take a big chunk out of the precious metals buying market. $2 sounds awfully high for the appraisal fee, so they are going to be making money on the items they buy and on the appraisal fee. I wonder if these machines will offer any higher than the hotel buyers that were big a few years back and ripping people off, offering people 25-40% of melt.

I don't know of any cash-for-gold joints that are still open today, let alone the last year or two. With the value of all metals way down, the kiosks don't make a whole lot of sense.
