I think many of us ARE collectors of the undebased sets of the past when the dies and planchets were carefully prepared.

> How many years has it been since newly issued circulated coin has been anything but boring and routine?

But, this is not about a COIN. That's the point.

Did you read the rest of my post? My point was that especially for newer collector, the mismatched sets added a spark of excitement that's otherwise become very uncommon in coin collecting of the present era.

Step away from your own preferences for a moment....and understand that argument is not with me. Although I do collect Uncirculated Sets including some of the varieties, the 2016 sets I bought were not errors. Neither have I bought one because it's not at the top of my list of priorities.

However that does not take away from the noticeable enthusiasm experienced by others, in receiving the mismatched set and that is an extremely positive incentive to pursue the hobby. Goodness knows it needs an injection of the thrill of discovery from time to time. If that comes by way of mis-packaging, that's better than nothing.

HMM...

I never noticed this before - I gues life has been kinda busy this year;
Now I gotta check "my son's" set to see if it's normal, or the error packaging - iirc it was bought right at the beginning of the year.

I was about to buy sets for myself because these were originally listed w/o security features - and my inquiry to the mint seemed to suggest the features were being dropped;
Then when it was revealed that the features were not being dropped I lost interest in buying.
