I know I am a bit past 3000, but I have been planning this contest for a little while.

Let's see if I can come up with a fun, clever contest. I'm not too fond of the "guess the answer" contests, so I will try something that requires a little more thought.

I just read one of Dan Brown's books, Inferno, and I fell in love with the "follow the clue trail to the answer" type of story. I'm going try to do a contest in that format.

I will be leaving clues in posts on this forum that point to other posts I have written. There will be a total of 15 clues in 15 different topics, and the last clue will point to a secret website, book, movie, or something (will be family-friendly, though ). Most clues are stand-alone posts, but some are hidden in the body of a [short-ish] post. Gotta keep it challenging.

The winner MUST post the final answer, plus links to each of the 14 clues (the first clue in this post does not have to be posted) so I can see that you went through the entire puzzle and didn't just happen to find clue #15. The winner is the first to post the 14 links plus the final answer. You can copy the link to the specific post by pressing this button:

So what do you get? This EF details 1868 Shield nickel. I just upgraded it, so I have no use for it any more.

Will you post the hints here or will we have to find your posts? If so, do we look at your replies to those topics only or can it be any of the members here?

Not sure if I'm making any sense.

The first hint will be posted here, and the rest would be in different posts in different threads, like a scavenger hunt. One hint will point to the next hint. They will be in my replies only. The hints will be explicity stated. The older posts will have the hint clearly separated from the text of the post. I will make a few new posts, and those will have hints imbedded in the posts. If everyone is stuck on a certain clue, I will make a hint here that will clarify it a bit more.

I asked a Mod if he can edit older posts for me so I don't clog up the forum with new posts in old topics.

Congratulations on your milestone, TypeCoin.

As if we need a contest to want to read YOUR posts!

(does that get me a brownie point?)

This will be fun! Is there a prize or is it just for the fun of it? Can't wait to get started!

Edit: just looked at the end of the post found my answer

I just gave out the first hint before I can no longer edit this post. None of the other hints are active yet.

@ Hello There

Perhaps the best way to explain this is to do an example:

Example hint: 24€ scared me from large lot of silver below spot on ebay.

You find the thread I am alluding to by using the forum search functions, and if this was a real clue, there would be a clue in one of my posts that pointed to another thread, and so on and so forth. Try to find the thread and post it here.

Brownie points abound! But I have no brownies

This is not the main idea for the contest. I just cannot use other people's posts.

As soon as I get an OK from jbuck that I can host this contest and his agreement to edit the posts. I think he is taking the weekend off.
