1981 Proof Set Question - Coin Community Forum

BRUCE 1947 Pillar of the Community United States 834 Posts	Posted 02/01/2008 10:17 pm Hi All. I have a question about the 1981 proof set, they list a type 1 and type 2 set. The type 1 is with a filled "S" and the type 2 with a clear "S". I have this set and all the coins look to have a clear "S" however because I do not have a set with a filled mint mark to compare it with is it that obvious when you look at the two sets side by side? I tried to get a picture of both sets but could not find any thanks for any help you can give me. THE OTHER BRUCE. Report this Post to the Staff

littleboy Pillar of the Community United States 764 Posts	Posted 02/02/2008 12:11 am take a look at photos comparing the two varieties of mint marks, I think theres one in Red Book and blue book. both are actually "clear" but some retard from 25+ years ago gave them descriptions of filled and clear. the first s, the inexpensive one, is the same style as the s on 1980 proof coins. the second s, the expensive one, is unique to a small minority of 1981 proof coins. dollars and cents are the toughest to get, but all 6 denominations arent common. a proof set with all 6 type ii's is very valuable Report this Post to the Staff

I only heard rumors of a clear S but not mine. And really noticable. Filled S mint marks are just blobish looking. Report this Post to the Staff
