Hello Everyone,
I'm not really new to the board, been a member for 11 yrs, just got back into my coin photography and thought I'd check out the forum. Bought a Canon Rebel xsi and 100mm macro lens about 5 years ago and have never used it. Figured most things out but can't seem to open Raw files with my version of PhotoShop6. Tried to look for plug ins thinking I needed an upgrade but had trouble with adobe and my registration numbers.
Just wondering what you all use, I am thinking of buying Adobe Lightroom, anybody use this?

Dave

I use both Lightroom and Photoshop. Both are phenomenal pieces of software. Expensive yes but it's what I've been doing for the last 20 years. So for me most of the learning curve is over. . Lightroom hasn't been around that long but it's a really nice piece of software and will automate a lot of your process. But it does come with a learning curve. I know GIMP is used by others here in the forum and just like photoshop is for me, GIMP works best for them. It's all in what you like.

Thanks for the reply, I too have been using Photoshop for years, the problem just came up when I tried to shoot Raw pics instead of JPG. I would certainly like to try to work with the raw images first so I guess I'll have to do a little more researching.

Since you have a Canon camera, why not give Canon's Digital Photo Professional a try? It should be on the disk that came with your camera. It will allow you to process the RAW files.

rmpsrpms,
thanks for the suggestion, I put the tethering utility on my computer years ago, never thought of checking into the processing program. I'm not really sure I need to mess with Raw pics, been working with JPG's and Photoshop for years, mainly post pics to my web site to keep track of my coins and show others. I currently have a lot of dealer pics up on the site, I would like to retake myself, so I thought I'd get back into the photography part of my collecting.
