Just came across an ebay seller who has pages and pages of "error" coins. Only problem is that most of them are not errors. I have seen a person mistakenly/innocently advertise one or two "errors" before that weren't error, but I've never seen anything like this.

i.e. "2015 P/P Washington quarter"

I am SO thankful for this forum and the people in it for educating us all!

Thank You CCF members!

Some people are plain unscrupulous. Anything for a buck! Education is perhaps the most important combatant in offsetting the negative efforts. And we get a good one here in the forums; keeps the money in the pocket when folks do these things and helps optimize spending when it's time to buy the real deal.

I generally drop a neutral question or two to the seller. If they have personal stock, they revise the post or pull down the sale item. Else it's buyer beware. I hope folks read the questions/answers posted by prospective buyers (or educators).

I see full sheets of errors at flea markets but the sellers really think that are errors remember spadone era etc sometimes a few cool coins like some fido's mixed in like BIE or die chips or cracks which are cool

p/p quarter is popular

some might of been errors in 50-60's also

It really is up to each individual to educate themself. There is so much info on the web there really is no excuse if you buy something you shouldn't. Sellers are always going to try to sell. I find that I have a hard time selling items that are not really errors or varieties because I am too honest in my descriptions. I am really selling the same thing that others are, but they get $20 or more for something I do not even get a $1 bid on. I feel the need to educate when I list items like that. It won't make me rich, but at least I can say I am not trying to cheat someone.

I hear what you are saying. I don't have an issue with someone selling a coin with a cracked die mark, etc. They might call it an error rather than die wear. I suppose sell what you want so long as you keep it a fair and honest deal. Lots of folks out there that are interested in cracks and MD coins. Interest will create the market. I suspect that if folks called them what they are, they'd still sell them. But I also suspect that the ones trying for the bigger pay day is calling it what they want to prey on the lesser educated buyers.
