Pretty neat, a PO-01 1900 V nickel. PCGS pop shows this is the only one graded at that.

i still don't get the attraction of lowball coins.

I find the larger denominations most interessting in lowball grades, but not the smaller ones. Slick V-nicks were common in circulation when I was a kid. They looked like electrical box punch-outs and have no more appeal now than they did then.

of course now I get a bunch of ebay sales and have enough...

Justinwd, it is HARD to get a coin graded PO01. MUCH harder than MS-70 or PF-70. It also needs to be slabbed by one of the three major grading companies (PCGS, NGC, ANACS). Often times there is only one in that grade.

It's hard to get a PO-1 because the date and mintmark MUST be readable. It isn't rare to see dateless coins that look like this, but they would not grade because there's no way of determining a date (unless it's a one year type or variety)

On a side note, I wonder if Nickelsearcher saw this one...
