I guess I should bite the bullet & just buy a loupe that has more than a 10x magnifying glass....

I'd recommend getting a cheap USB microscope. I use the microscope more than my loupe. It's so quick and easy to just slide one coin under it after another. And it's very convenient to just click a button and have a great photo. Obviously, it isn't convenient for when you're not at home, but it's the greatest investment I've ever made into my hobby. You can actually get a USB microscope for about half the price of a good B&L loupe.

I love puns & I thought it was punny!

Plus I don't want to share too much about myself in the group. I suppose if I had been here for a long time I wouldn't mind sharing some more info about me but I've only been here since late December.
When I get to know more people & feel more comfortable I'll probably share more info. Especially since I'm a female. I would venture to say that there aren't a lot of females in the group.

For now you & whoever else has read my comment knows that I'm a female & I wear a size 10.
And on someone else's post I revealed that I'm a practicing Christian, who has a good bit of scripture memorized.
I think that's enough for now.

@mahgobbi - do you have a link that you'd like to share?
I asked my local coin guy & he said that it wasn't necessary but if it would help with my terrible pic taking ability than I think it would be a good investment.

I'm female

I bought my microscope for $65 shipped off of ebay, but I read a lot of threads on here before I purchased and there are apparently a bunch of people who bought $20 - $25 microscopes and are very happy with them. Honestly, I might have gone with a different one if I had to do it again. I opted for the one I got because I thought the 5mp would give me better quality photos. However, I've seen some great photos posted by people who have cheaper equipment. I also wish that mine could zoom in a little closer than it does.

Here's what I have: http://www.amazon.com/Celestron-Han...n+microscope

I have a 2mp handheld similar to that one that I am using now. I also have an AmScope MD400 with a nice microscope that it sits in. It is worthless. The drivers for it only work up to Windows XP. My laptop that I used exclusively with the scope crapped out on me a couple of years ago. I cannot find another laptop with XP installed on it. I really miss using that scope.

size, age, gender, ....doesn't matter much but with regards eyesight; I wish I had my younger eyes. But even then I am pretty sure I would need magnification for the minor varieties I chase.

It is amazing how fast some of our champion CRH enthusiasts can demolish several boxes a week. My eyes can't handle that load! But I do get jealous (just a bit) at the great finds they consistently produce. Still, it's great to see a member pull one out of the rough! Gives the rest of us hope on some level. I imagine my level is 4X+ lower as a result of my slower turns on boxes. Takes me 2-3 weeks for a box giving it an hour or two most nights.

But you have great enthusiasm searching varieties! I hope it serves you well!

I've actually found that more people respond knowing that I'm a female. Which is why I've contemplated sharing that I'm a female.
I took a break from here & now they I'm back again not a lot of ppl have answered my questions. BUT when I made people known that I'm a female I've had a lot more responses.
Coincidence?

I've never given a second thought to who might be male or female. Doesn't affect the advice that they give.

Not really sure what gender has to do with collecting coins, maybe in the past but not in 2016. I think you would be pleasantly surprised by the number of female members on this site.

It shouldn't matter but you are probably right. You certainly have the data and experience to be the judge on that. I select mainly on topic title. If it interests me I'll visit. Then I do select based on the poster. Folks with shared interests are a popular pick for me. And those the garner higher attention based on mastery of subject matter. Most folks that reached out to me have been male though but I suspect that coin collecting is probably skewed that way. But it doesn't matter as we know.

To me it's all about Numismatics with good people. All though I must admit I have always enjoyed going through a few rolls with females.
