31.9 mm; 10.14 grams. Man's portrait on the obverse? Eagle with stars on the reverse, with "IANA" towards the top, and 1857 at the base?

South American. Uncertain of country but Bolivia might be a possibility.

It matches the size and design of a Bolivian 4 sols, if it were silver. How could it have so much wear, and be so clearly copper? And if a contemporary counterfeit, is copper more easily (and more cheaply) obtained than silver in Bolivia?

Circulating counterfeits were rampant in Bolivia in the 1850's. Any trace remaining of silvering on a copper core?

@Petrus
Definitely looks like it.
Strange that it would have a greater diameter than the original. The 4 Sol has a diameter of 31.3mm and a weight of 13.5 grams. The weight could be explained as a result of the missing silver coat, but the diameter?

Maybe the coin was hammered.

Or maybe the counterfeiter making the coin was hammered.
