I am thinking about buying this book. It is not expensive but I´d like to know what kind of information provides because I don´t want an "Austrian krause". So, does anyone know the book?

Hmm, I only "know" it in the sense that I know about its existence. This page has a link to a few sample pages in case that helps: Click on "Detail-Info" (next to the magnifying glass). When the new window is open, click on "Vorblättern" at the bottom.

Chrisild, thanks for the page but I´m afraid the German is the BIG problem of this book.

Guess that pretty much every coin catalog from Austria or Germany is in German, just as pretty much every catalog from the US or UK is in English. And the "El Euro - La Peseta" catalog that I got in Madrid a few weeks ago is in Spanish ...

If you can get an older edition of the ANK for even less (used books markets, ebay, etc.), you could buy that. Some words may be self-explanatory or can be looked up easily (such as grades), and when you come across some term you want/need to know, just ask. Now a new edition of that catalog may be a little expensive under these circumstances.

Thelanguage shouldn't be that much a problem, what with the internet and on-line dictionaires and google language tool.
I haven't seen this book, I was living in Germany and there is one book, a little muddled for my liking that had German, Swiss and Austrian coins, but there are also good magazines, though may be hard to get a hold of. This certainly seems better than the book I saw in Germany though.
i am hoping to be moving to Austria at the end of the year, I might try and look this up in a book shop, Austrian coins are so much cheaper than German coins!!
