Took this to my local coin shop they told me this was worth 2 bucks if that they offered me a dollar for it. Is that on target or were they trying to take me for a ride ?

I would ask them if they have similar pieces and note the prices, if so. They need a profit, but that offer does sound a bit low.

Many LCSs are clueless when it comes to recognizing and authenticating errors beyond your basic off-centers and clips, it would not be surprising to me if they had no grasp of error values.

I get most of my error coins in the junk bin at my LCS because they don't appreciate errors.

A lot of lCS's are really in it for the precious metals. Some know coins, some don't. I would take Moxking's advice to know about that guy. His offer was way low.
