Based on another post I saw that asked for values of in between grades, thanks for the idea, Bilbo It got me thinking about how you would value a large cent,say 1798 in fine that was corroded and pitted but all the detail was there? How would you put a net value on it?
I think you're going to get very little consensus on this one.
My opinion: assign it the grade based on wear (in this example, F-12), then a description of the problems. For value, knock off a certain percentage (I typically use 10%, 25%, 50%, or 75%) of the value of a problem-free F-12. Determining what percentage to knock off based on how bad the problem is will be an art, not a science.
