I'm sending my 1853O back to PCGS for a possible upgrade to a plus or to AU. What do you all think my chances are? Beautiful gray coin in hand, plus there is a nasty scratch on the holder...Think its worth the money? Thanks all.

There is zero luster. EF-45. I am assuming the scratches are on the holder.

EF-45 looks like an appropriate grade for this one.
Rest in Peace

although I might get it reslabbed just because of that scratch.

Solid at XF45, obviously circulated.

From a wear standpoint, I think it might have made 50 if it had good luster. But flat like htis, it simply looks EF straightaway.

XF-45 was the right grade. If there was any luster at all, I would agree with you. But. There. Is. None.

just a hair too much wear on the obverse relief, lacking hints of luster. However, send to CAC. This would most likely nab a green bean as it is above average for the grade with the strong strike and tremendous eye appeal.
