Are there any other ways to see if an Indian head has an L or not if it is too worn to look at the ribbon?

yes! IHCs with a pointed bust have (or 'had') the L. broad bust is the no L type.

Also look at the position of the last A in AMERICA in relation to the tip of the lowest curl of the hair. That's the diagnostic I use.
