I guess the closeup of the MM is too pixelatted, cause with my tired old eyes, I cannot see it. I want to see it, as this is one I need for my Top 100 set and my bucketlist.

Thanks Jasper, at least I am not alone. I did an overlay, or at least the best I could with the smallness of the date and mint mark on the full coin photo. I am by no means another Richard S. Cooper when it comes to overlays, but I swear this mint mark appears to be a hair further north than the one on the RPM #2.

That's funny how incredibly similar these coins are! Thanks for the input guys! This coin has been in my collection for a few years and this was the first time I was able to get a good look at it. I was surprised to say the least when I saw the RPM. It made me look over my collection again for any more that may have slipped by.

Here's a rough outline of the RPM. Hope this helps!

See, this is what I mean. That is not the position of RPM #2. It is called horizontal because the second mint mark is horizontal not upright like you have drawn. The secondary mint mark you have drawn is similar to the RPM #1, BUT the mint mark is not in the right position to be the #1. Here is a rendering of how the secondary mint mark is laid out on the #2. I am not trying to be difficult here. I just want to make sure we are not giving out bad info.

That's what I thought seal006. It's an RPM but not a horizontal s/s RPM. Thanks for posting that drawing, that has never been very clear to me.

Barkley, you have the coin in hand, so only you can say for sure about the RPM. I personally cannot see it. Like I said it may be the overly pixelatted closeup. I would really like to see a photo of the date and mint mark together in the same photo, taken straight on. If you look at the mint mark position of RPM #1 you can tell this mint mark is not in the same position. Anyone who knows me, knows RPMs are my absolute specialty. I have devoted over 2 decades studying, finding, and collecting them. The 1909-S #2 is the crowning jewel in the CONECA Top 100 set. It would be super cool to own one.

Thank you. I was able to do a better overlay. Now unless I am not lining up my overlay just right, as I said in an earlier post, the mint mark on your coin looks a tad bit more north than the mint mark on the RPM #2 die. I am seeing areas that could possibly be remnants of a RPM, but I also cannot rule out circulation wear. as a cause. This one is very tough and I urge you, if you really feel it is a RPM, to send it to someone like Dr, Wiles or Bob Piazza or John Wexler. Because if it is a RPM, it could very well be a new one.

Don't tell me it could be a new one! you'll get my hopes up. I've looked this coin over and over before posting looking for a reason why it could not be an RPM but the extra S is still very much there. I'll be tied up over the next couple weeks. During that time I'll think about having it checked out professionally. Keep your fingers crossed that this may be something special. Regardless I'm still very happy to have found it!

If it were your coin. Who would you send it to?

I consider Bob Piazza as a friend, and very capable at analyzing ANY variety, but when it comes to RPMs, John Wexler is THE MAN. So either of those.

I do not want to get your hopes up too high. That is why I said that I could not rule out circulation wear.
