Hi everyone, I just picked up this piece. I do think that it's rather nice. How would you grade it? And what kind of value would you assign to it? Thanks!

This is one of the moderately rare varieties, with the 'FRA' reverse, edge should be 'PRIMO', with this variety.

vG, (British grading)

sel_69l - thanks for the input! Honestly, I wasn't even aware of it being a scarcer variety. Rather, I was just happy to get a 1689 half crown. I actually can't see the edging at all since it is slabbed, and the holder is a rather old form (probably ca late 1980s-90s).

See Tony Clayton's site for current valuation of British coins.

vG equivalent grade (Sheldon) would be about VF25, but I do not think that Sheldon is all that relevent in this case.

sel_69l- Thanks for the help! Yeah, Tony Clayton's page is about on par with that of NGC.
And, yes, your conversion to the Sheldon (North American) scale, is about on par with what the slab states.

I do love the tone of this HC. Problem free apart from wear.
It has seen good honest circulation and had considerable buying power in its day.
UK grade would be less than F but as it is such a pleasant coin I reckon it would achieve UK F £ all day long.
Believe me good honest coins are sought after.
At the right £ I would snap it up in a heartbeat.

peter1234 & jdmern- Thanks! I'm quite happy with it. Honestly, I got it for a good price and plan on keeping it for quite some time.
