Hong Kong didn't make any 1¢ coins in 1953.

As for the grade, I'm thinking somewhere around gVF. Lower, if that patchiness on the reverse (particularly in the upper left quadrant) is the beginnings of corrosion, rather than just dirt or uneven tone.

Hmm 1853 makes my coin seem somewhat more interesting methinks..
I never thought much of the "patchiness" - what do you think of the groovy die cracks?
