It's a nice looking Buffalo until you get up close. This kind of damage is even more severe than what you might expect to find for a lightly circulated coin. It is a shame and I agree with you.
I got a 1937 three legged Buffalo in VF 35 for $680 and it does not have a nasty scratch across the face. I am not bragging but many good deals on Buffalo's are out there at LCS and online. In the last few months I have bought all key dates for Buffalo nickels except the 1918-D 8/7. Most have been in VF condition and graded and slabbed. It is a shame about the nickel in question but he needs to cut his price about in half.
