So I bought a 1912 $5 BOC $5 gold on ebay for $600 wow great price.Well it arrived, big problem 1 hologram sticker missing and second sticker damaged and case shows signs of tampering. So I contact seller and he states yes he opened the case and also says he open the case to the $10 coin he has. he did not realize that would effect the coin authenticity. He said he would refund the money for the coin it will cost me return shipping. I think with the fact that the case has been opened it not worth $600 opinions please I feel bad for the seller.

i would say you should post good images of the coin and the members here can inform you on the quality, authenticity and value of the coin.

I think you mean capsule, not case. Without the intact seal there is no way I would pay $600 for that coin. How do we know that the seller or someone else did not swap the coin from the RCM and put in another one. Quote: i would say you should post good images of the coin and the members here can inform you on the quality, authenticity and value of the coin. You can't tell the authenticity of the coin (that it came from the BOC Hoard) by looking at pictures. You can only attest to the quality of the coin. There is no difference between a Hoard coin and a Non-hoard coin except for quality. It could be a high quality non-hoard coin for all we know. Once the seal is broken the value of it plummets. Quote: I feel bad for the seller. I would be angry at the seller for not disclosing that the coin's capsule has been opened with a broken seal. You are supposed to give an accurate description of the item you are selling. Quote: he did not realize that would effect the coin authenticity. Only an idiot or a 10 year old child would think that. Its no different than if a coin was taken out of a graded capsule.

Wow, there has to be somethin up man. Somebody with those coins prolly has a little experience. If it were me I would know in my mind that there had been a switch, there's nobody on the planet that could be silly enough for this. Was the capsule put back together so as to hide the fact that it was opened, and not to disclose it to a buyer. Wow, feel for ya in this case.

Surely any 10 yr old would know that coin was put in that capsule for a reason, it like your gonna accidentally rip it open. I'm sure it takes an act of Congress to bust it open, like the old cassette security devices. Anyone remember those?

I would assume the slab is just garbage now, there is no way to prove that's the proper coin. Also I don't think it would matter if ya could prove it.

The seller probably watched too many of the Home Shopping Channel and watching Steve Bromberg handle Mint coins out of their plastic capsules, with his fingers! You would not believe how many people I have seen take the coins out of their capsules to view the coin in-hand. Oh the dignity!

I would return the coin. Go through the ebay process. He admitted his mistake and it was not disclosed in his listing. If this is the case the item is SNAD ( Significantly not as described ). Take pictures of the capsule and the damage. Keep the lines of communication open with the seller. The seller will be on the hook for the cost of the coin and shipping charges both ways. If you return the coin be sure and pay for signature confirmation. This charge may be on you but you want proof that the coin was received. If you go to ebay customer service a lot of questions you may have will be answered,if not you will be able to contact someone who will walk you through the process.

Quote: You would not believe how many people I have seen take the coins out of their capsules to view the coin in-hand. Oh the dignity! During last September's RCM Vancouver Boutique new coin event, one guy ask the staff, "how do I take the coin out of the capsule, it is very hard to do so". Couldn't believe my ears. My goodness, fingerprints all over the coin! So yes, there are people who like to take the coins out of their capsules and hold it in their bare hand. Another reason to buy directly from the Mint and not re-sellers.

These or the regular gold units unless the highest two grades for each year, will be a small premium over bullion value, generally speaking that's why the so call bargain price.

The person that did it, did not realize that it would effect the value of the coin by doing what he did. All he wanted to do was enjoy his coin in his own way. He was honest and upfront about it and will refund my money no problem. A rather costly mistake on his part as he has done the same to the $10 coin he has. I don't believe the coin to be exchanged but it is not a very nice coin, the obverse like most is rather baggy.

If it's baggy, you have a slight premium bullion value coin in the capsule or not, enjoy it or return it, the buyer seems to be upfront.
