These two copper coins are part of a lot that I purchased today, about 5 pounds for 25 dollars. Each one is a E. Chihuahua, Libertad 1/4 Real, dated 1860 & 1866 respectively.

The second coin is the one that intrigues me the most, as it has the counterstamp that reads M.S. The first coin was just necessary for me to figure out what in the Sam Hill I had.

Enjoy!

I was thinking "I've never heard of East Chihuahuan coins"... then I realised "E" stood for "Estado".

Hey, don't blame me. They don't speak Spanish anywhere around here...

As for the counterstamp, Mr Hartzog lists "M. S. in Wreath in Rectangular Depression" among the known merchant counterstamps on his website, but you'll have to buy his book to find out more info.

... at $83.00, my curiousity will have to remain unsatisfied. Unless.. I can scrounge up a copy from my local Mexican expert. ^^

Thanks Sap! I had no idea a list like that existed.
