Hey everyone, I have been reading for the past couple of weeks about coin collecting. Its really interesting to read about some people here who enjoy collecting pennies or dimes, etc.

I was checking out the US mint web site and I was left with a question about gold and platinum coins. Most are sold out. One that is not sold out is the 1oz platinum proof 2007. Is there a reason the platinum proof is not sold out vs. the platinum uncirculated?

Thanks

I haven't been able to yet determine whether all are sold or not . . . But if you look at the detailed listing for the uncirculated coins you will see the following message:

Due to the increasing market value of platinum, the American Eagle Platinum Uncirculated Coins are temporarily unavailable while pricing for these options can be adjusted; therefore, no orders can be taken at this time.

The flippers try and guess which will have the lowest mintages. Historically it has been the uncirculaed.

This is just a guess, but it is based on years of observation.
