After reading David Schenkman's "You've Got Mail" article in The Numismatist magazine (Dec 2015, pgs 60-61) about St. Louis Post Office tokens, I decided to find one for my collection. To my surprise, I was able to obtain an example through an E-Bay auction. I checked the 3rd Ed of the Standard Catalog of US Tokens 1700-1900 and found the token I have is just like the MO33 & MO33A tokens listed, although mine has a different engraving on the reverse (M&B No 2 of Mo.). I have a couple questions I'm hoping somebody here can answer...
1) Do the Miller #s assigned in the token book have rarity levels like the Fuld #s for CWTs & store cards have? If so, what rarity would mine be listed as?
2) The two examples (Mo33 & Mo33A are the only two examples of this variety listed in the book, but mine is neither. Does that mean that the example I have would be assigned a different Mo# if it was not previously known when the book was written?
Any help is greatly appreciated
