Well,
I feel like a kid at the candy store...just got home with my candy!
I bought my first $12 of nickel rolls to search through.
Any suggestions? I noticed a lot of you are "hoarding" pre 1960 nickels.

I will be looking for 5 and 6 Full Step coins as well as the 1942-1945 nickels for their silver content.

Any other suggestions would be appreciated!
Thanks,
Laura

you need to remember that the 1942-d nickel wasn't made out of silver only the 1942-p in circulation. but the rest of the 1943-1945 are silver. keep that in the back of your head when sorting though nickels.

1942D---D over D
1942S---S next to Montecello (instead of top)
1943P---3 over 2 (silver)
1943P---3 over 2 (copper/nickel)
1943P---Doubled Eye
1944P---No P (counterfeit but still valuable)
1945P---DDR
1946---DDR
1946D---D/D
1949D---D/S

When you're done searching your rolls, how do you go about taking them back to the bank for other rolls. Do you take them into the bank re-wrapped or is it ok to take them in in a jar and then cash them in for other rolls?
Thanks,
Laura

I go to a Commerce bank and use their coin star machhine--its free even for non customers! If you don't have a commerce around you, I suggest you re-roll them and bring them to a bank. You should get into the habbit of bringing them back to one bank, cashing them in, taking the money to another bank and getting more there. That way you don't end up searching the same coins over and over again and you will also find that the tellers will like you more haha

definitely return or use the coins from somewhere else...last night I spent 30 bucks in halves at a restaurant...she was amazed---you should have seen the waitresses faces when they saw all those halves. they circled around the girl and started smiling in amusement. now she also received a good tip--not to mention a story to go home with.

Like said above some banks have coin counting machines for free, you'll definitely want to find a free coin machine b/c once you start searching boxes that's a lot of rolls to re-wrap. I also usually spend my halves and the reactions you get are worth the weight of carrying those halves around.
