This is a recent purchase of mine.

This coin is the only Wu Zhu variety attributed unquestionably to the Sui Dynasty, which lasted from 589 AD - 618 AD. It is easily identified by the vertical bar to the left of the "Wu" character, and the "Wu" character is of a rounded hourglass shape.

These are very hard to find, and are nearly impossible to find for less than $75. I saw this one on ebay for $25, so I went for it. It is genuine because there is evidence that it was buried in between to other coins. Notice how the crust makes circular shapes on the rim.

I could use a few more from around this region, but alas I don't feel sufficiently knowledgeable to go down that avenue, especially with the number of counterfeits around.

I have a basic collection of 6 different types purchased from a forum member some time back, but I couldn't tell a good coin from a bad coin, a valuable one from a stinker...

I can see the attraction of a coin like yours (even if I don't really understand what I am looking at) some of these coins have interesting and colourful patina's and I guess if you know the history then they probably have lots of that since the Chinese have always been thorough in keeping historical records.

I'll let you know when I get it in hand. Should be around 23mm and 3.2g.
