So it finially happened and a buyer without contacting me filed a item not described case against me. I didn't agree that it wasn't as described and put it in writing but just agreed to return it since he wasn't happy. The return shipping was less then a dollar and I knew there was no way to fight it probally so just did it to get it over with. Just mostly annoyed me that he made a case about it without talking to me about him being unhappy.

The issue came down to him admitting in the request case that he didn't read the entire title, look at any photos or read my description. He said he suffered from dyslexia and took two separate words in my title and placed them together and thought that was the item brand line. Therefore I was at fault for misleading him and describing incorrectly. It was a totally different type of item then what he thought it was. It was in even the right category versus what he claimed to have thought it was.

It would be equivent to someone selling a oil painting of white tail bucks and stars in the title and the person thinking it was a Starbucks gift card.

What would have been the likiehood that ebay would had sided with him in the case? I knew he would had likely given me a bad review so I just took the hit on the shipping. Does this count in my record as a defect since I resolved it even though he made a claim.

Anyways I blocked him and allowed him to return it and as soon as it gets back in one piece he can have his money back. The big deciding factor is that it was a $30 item and only $1 return shipping hit on my part. It's just a vintage item not in high demand so I think he may have been truthful and not trying to scam me and just wanted a legimate return but it absolutely killed me that it was totally his issue but my fault.

Please remember that if a buyer wants to contact a seller AFTER the conclusion of a sale the ONLY way to contact a seller is to open a dispute. Or at the very least I've never seen a way to contact a seller after the conclusion of a sale.

I sell myself and I have a "customer is always right" policy simply because ebay ALWAYS sides with the buyer and it makes no sense to battle the impossible.

About a month ago I received an item that was broken (primarily because of the packing). I tried every which way I could to try to contact the seller WITHOUT opening a dispute, but I could not find a way to do it.

My guess is that ebay doesn't want buyers contacting sellers directly for fear of losing additional revenues from off the books sales.

When I go to "Purchase History" it gives me an option to contact the seller for various reasons.

You could be right. I never use purchase history and always go directly to the lot itself. The only pages I use on ebay are Watch List and Selling/Sold list. Purchase history might give a contact option.

You are correct. There is an option under Purchase history to contact the seller without opening a dispute. I'll remember that if I ever need it.

I think, also, that assuming you saved the item in your watch list, you can simply go back to the original listing, scroll all the way down to "Ask a Question", and proceed. I always do it this way.

Yeah you can just message buyers and sellers through the orginal listing using ebay messaging center. I buy and sell in about equal amounts since I buy for other members of my family. I use it all the time both ways. Like a buyer doesn't know how to turn a item on etc, it's super helpful.

ebay prefers buyers and sellers first try to take care of issues that way. Cough cough..... So they won't have to spend money on customer service....cough haha. It makes it easy to smooth over problems. Camera has a scratch that you didn't say, oh I give you a few dollars off will that make you happy? It can be abused but not as bad as the scams related to not as described cases.

I'm hoping that in my case the guy was just drunk when he ordered it and has regrets. It makes me mad cause I would had accept a return through my normal return process. This way forced me to pay his return shipping when he should had paid if himself. I'm not worrying with it since I got a great discount on the return shipping about a $1.50 and I got him to admit in the case that the item is in perfect shape like it was in the photos. So if it arrives broken or missing pieces I have a bit of a case.

As long as it gets resolved via the ebay system, and they don't have to "step-in," all is good and it doesn't go as a strike against you.

That's good to know and makes me feel better. The jerk is certainly never going to be allowed to buy something from me again. Sadly I been having to block one buyer a week lately. So many people bid and win on a auction and go deadbeat. The most annoying ones are international buyers who don't have to pay before using buy it now. Six days gone down the drain and listing fees gone down the drain.
