Ultimately, the decision is yours on whether to submit or not. If you look at it as "I am paying X amount to have this coin I found safely stored" then go for it! If you think you might make some money selling it, do lots of research first. Just sayin', if that set was in my house, both the nickel and the half would have already been cut out, and some nice pictures taken. They are both beautiful!

I would probably send that nickel out for grading and get a true view done on it. People are paying crazy money for wild toning, regardless of the coin.

Quote: Jbuck you think its worth it to break the set to acetone the penny? I was thinking of getting the Kennedy and Jefferson graded! Not sure if its worth it though? To the first question, yes, if you want to keep it or otherwise preserve the coin. To the second part, I am not a big fan of getting coins graded. With that being said, I think grading should be kept to very high value coins, where the cost of grading is easily absorbed by the value added.

Always interests me to see the varying opinions. I'm still forming my opinions on slabbing coins, but I'm leaning towards only sending out rare or highly counterfeited coins for grading, to verify authenticity. The best advice I've gotten on this site: Buy the coin, not the slab. A coin that you love, I may not think is so great.

If you want to, send them off to ANACS. Not going to hurt and you have two very nice coins graded and protected. And acetone soak that penny and hit it with verdi care. Might be able to fix it a bit.

One thing is eventually I will look for a slabbed Kennedy. I like to have a slabbed version of certain type of coins and then lots of other unslabbed years and dates. But I'm trying to get at least 1 sample of coins I like in a high grade sample! To me it doesn't have to be particularly rare or expensive. Just so when I want to look at a nice high grade version I can look at it! To me the 64 Kennedy, the first and only year that is 90% silver is the best version to get slabbed if any! Plus I have it right here!

That is a tough call, to send out for grading. As posted earlier that's your call.
If I was sending these coins in, I would worry that I might get a "details" grade. Either for environmental issues, or maybe even artificial toning.
Even though I find the color of the nickel very interesting, I am feeling it is not natural.
For the Kennedy, that is a 1964 proof. Very common. I feel you could find one already graded cheaper than sending one in. Unless you send into ANACS.

WOW....nice looking nickle! Personally, I'd open it and put into an AirTite holder to keep it where it's at.
No saving that cent, it's a goner and not worth attempting conservation. They are cheap and common.

Quote: I do wonder why it turned those colors Poor storage, common with these sets. The Mint cellophane material is far from airtight.

I just checked the bay and see the cheapest is around $80 Quote: WOW....nice looking nickle! Personally, I'd open it and put into an AirTite holder to keep it where it's at thanks Badthad

Quote: I am feeling it is not natural. Ummm, its still in the OGP. Not sure how that would be qualified as purposeful toning.

I think the nickel is a beauty.. but I would also venture to say they would call it AT.. they are very strict on it.. even ejecting real toning a lot of the time
