Hi, I am a small collector with a few coins that either found or were given. Anyway, I was wondering, the Presidential one dollars, are they going to be like the Statehood Quarters, circulated and collected or are they buy only? If they are to be circulated, when will they start to show up? Thanks.

Yes, they are circulating coins. But good luck getting them in circulation. Very unpopular.

If you're a new collector, you have absolutely nothing to lose by going down to your bank and getting the new ones as they come out. Heck, you pay a dollar and if you get tired of it in a year or two, you can get your dollar back.

Thanks. One more question, the current one dollar coins, are they still in circulation and spendable? I have five of them and someone told me that some stores and other places would not take them. Is this true?

I found that the stores will take them but they stare at them and then sometimes ask "Where did this come from?"

Thanks, I like the one dollar coins and was just wondering. I remember seeing those coke machines that were redesigned to accept one dollar coins, they didn't last long.

Depends on how you want to spend them and if you want to get some. If you want any of the baby sized dollar coins, best just go to a bank and ask for them. One bank I go to is constantly asking people if they want them. Can't get rid of them. If you look for them in change, you'll probably get one as if it were a quarter. How to spend them? Good question. If your in a large city with public transportation, most conductors have coin changers and no slots for those so you might get a nasty comment if you try to use them. Most stores samd thing with the cash registers, no place for them. Sometimes in a store a cashier will stop and call for a head cashier to verify it is real. Nothing like holding up everyone with those.
Eventually they will all be in those silly cardboard folders as an educational items for kids and not be worth more than about $0.99
In reallity I suspect they will end up like the Bicentennial Quarters that also no one wanted.
