I'm interested in finding more about these. They appear to be a 1930's phenomenon. According to "A Guide Book of United States Tokens and Medals" there were 8 different designs produced. I've only seen 6. These are:
-Hauptmann Trial
-Admiral Byrd
-Morro Castle Fire
-Santa Claus
-Lord's Prayer
-Joe Louis
Not sure what the other 2 are. If anyone has any info I'd be interested.
Thanks.

FWIW, there was a recent auction for a Hauptmann trial capped penny.

The few that you list cover the types that I'm aware of. The Byrd example seems to be the most common (and it comes in a couple varieties/metals). A couple of these have sold on ebay recently.

Good luck on you search.

ErrorCoins222 - Because the 6 ones I listed are those you're aware of, the book probably has a misprint. Thanks either way.

I wouldn't use my awareness as the determinant of existence. If there's anything that I've learned about exonumia, it's that just when you think you've found all of a given series or type, another one pops up!

Thanks for posting those photos together in this thread. I'll post an update if I happen across any other types.

Who knows, maybe another design will eventually pop up on ebay or some other auction site. I do remember hearing about a seventh design, which commemorated the shooting of John Dillinger. FWIW, it happened around the same time as the Morro Castle Fire and the Hauptmann Trial. However, internet searches gave me no results.
