Hi all, I've noticed that the British seemed to have problems fitting in the obverse legends of some of their farthings in the 1870's (at least). This has resulted in a couple of interesting approaches (that don't seem to be particularly rare).
Note that both the approaches below occur for dates where the full legend is displayed normally - ie these are varieties although not even Peck describes them. I'd be interested to know of a catalog that does include these - any help here ?

method 1: 1874H,1875H, 1879:
Chop the bottom stop of the last colon neatly in half:

It's a bit blurry on the 1875H above - here's the detail from one dated 1879:

Method 2: Remove enough from the back of the portrait to permit the full colon to be included.
This example is on an 1878 farthing

That, is a very good spot. I've not heard of it before, but it's possible that some other sharp eyed collector has.
